Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State University's women's tennis team parlayed a successful season into a home-court advantage in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Lakers will host three other teams in the first round in Allendale, Mich. GVSU is the No. 2 seed in the region, and will host the Nos. 3, 6 and 7 seeds. The Lakers' will take on Ashland at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9.
Drury, Ashland and Michigan Tech will all travel to Allendale for the first round match-ups. Grand Valley State and Ashland will square off at 10 a.m. on Friday morning. Drury and Michigan Tech will play in the second game at 2 p.m. The final game, between the winners of Friday's matches, will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. If inclement weather moves in, the matches will take place indoors at Ramblewood in Grandville, Mich.
The Lakers finished the season with an overall record of 26-5 (.839) and were ranked 34th in Division II on March 7. GVSU claimed two big victories at the end of the season, defeateing No. 19 Drury and No. 37 Indianapolis.
