Orlando, Fla. - Grand Valley State split its last two matches on its spring trip, picking up an 8-1 victory over St. Cloud State before falling to Evansville by the same score. Jackie Shipman was the lone Laker to earn a point against the Purple Aces, winning 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles spot.
Against Evansville, Shipman took the point at No. 4 singles and Jaime Oppenlander battled at No. 5 singles, losing 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Darylann Trout also went to three sets in the No. 6 singles spot, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Audrey Koopsen and Katelyn Grashorn lost 9-7 in No. 2 doubles, and Trout and Chelsea Johnson lost by the same score in No. 3 doubles.
It was a different story against St. Cloud, with the Lakers prevailing by an 8-1 score. Jenna Killips won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0 and then Koopsen followed that up with a No. 2 singles win 6-4, 6-4. Johnston blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Grashorn lost in three sets at No. 4 singles and then Oppenlander and Trout closed out singles play with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Killips and Emily Zellner won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, followed by a victory at No. 2 by Koopsen and Oppenlander (8-2). Johnston and Trout closed it out with a convincing 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
