Indianapolis, Ind. - The Grand Valley State women's swimming and diving team remained in second place at the 2008 GLIAC Championships with a three-day team score of 458 points. Wayne State leads the way with 527 points. The fourth and final day will begin with Saturday morning prelims at 10:30, with the Championship finals set for 6 p.m. at the University of Indianapolis.
The Laker women set three school records and hit three NCAA DII B qualifying marks on the third day of competition. Danielle Buglio claimed the GLIAC title, set a school-record and hit the NCAA B qualifying mark with a time of 59:01 in the 100 backstroke. Allison Scholz finished fifth with a time of 1:01.32, while Kim Baughman was seventh (1:01.70). Jenna Thayer set a school-record and hit the B mark with her second-place finish in the 400 IM. Katie Lawrie touched in fifth with a time of 4:41.64. Alison VanKampen finished fifth in the 100 breast (1:08.89), followed by Sam Stump in seventh (1:09.24).
Erin Kinney claimed a seventh-place finish in the 200 free (1:58.52), while Melissa Faletti was eighth (1:58.94). Ally Nagel claimed sixth in the100 butterfly with a time of 57.94 and Erin Lynch was eighth when she touched the wall in 1:00.73. The 800 free relay team of Alison VanKampen, Katie Lawrie, Erin Lynch and Erin Kinney concluded the night with school-record time of 7:52.19 which was good for third.
