Lori Stinston's 1997 Women's Golf NAIA National Championship team is being inducted in the Tri-State University Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 6. The 2007 TSU Athletic Hall of Fame inductions will take place on Saturday, October 6 during the Homecoming Breakfast. Stinson has already been inducted as a coach into the TSU Hall of Fame.
The 1997 women's golf team won the national championship for NAIA Division II, under the leadership of coach Lori Stinson. Members were Sarah Brown, Amy Eckhardt, Janell Howland, Dara Jones, Michelle Doremus, and Tina Bashelier. Stinson and Sarah Brown already have Hall of Fame individual honors, along with Bashelier, added as an individual in 2007.
Stinson started the team in 1994 and fully developed it. She guided her team to win the NAIA National Championship in 1997, the first national championship for Tri-State in any sport. To top off the season, she also won NAIA Coach of the Year honor. Since 1995, her team's did not place any lower than 6th at the NAIA National Championship, including an outstanding 3rd place in 1999.
Stinson was also the Director of Golf at Tri-State University's Zollner Golf Course. There she hired, trained, and supervised a staff consisting off 25-30 people. She was responsible for all advertising, public relations, budgeting, organizing the leagues, inventory, and coordinating and administrating all tournaments for the golf course.
Stinson joined Grand Valley State's coaching ranks in 1999 as the first full-time head coach for the women's golf team.
