Grand Valley State finished in second place at the Northwood Invitational on Saturday. The Lakers posted a 307 in the first round on Friday and a 304 in the final round on Saturday for a two day total of 611. GVSU finished six strokes behind winner Ferris State (605).
The Lakers trailed by 11 strokes entering the final round and shot five strokes better than the Bulldogs in round two, but it wasn't enough to overcome the lead Ferris State had built on the first day.
Sophomores Caitlin Bennett and Caitlin Duval both tied for fifth place overall with a score of 152. Bennett tallied a 78 and then a 74, while Duval posted a 76 in both rounds. Sophomore Ashley Smith recorded a 153, which tied her for eighth place as she had a 77 on Friday and a 76 on Saturday.
Senior Tracey Puckering shot a 76 in the first round and a 78 in the second round for a two day total of 154, tying her for 10th place. Freshman Kristina Langton finished in 13th place with a 157 (78, 79).
Grand Valley State will play in the Findlay Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1 in Findlay, Ohio.
