Allendale, Mich. - Ashley Smith shot a 79 on the final day of competition to finish first overall with a 231. Smith's round helped Grand Valley State University claim the NCAA Division II East Regional and earn a spot in the NCAA National Tournament in Houston, Tx. next week. The finals will tee off on May 13 at Memorial Park.

Smith's 78 and 74 on the first two days of competition had her in a tie for the top spot heading into the final day, and her 79 on Wednesday was the day's best. Despite holding just a one-stroke lead over Ferris State University heading into Wednesday, the Lakers outshot the Bulldogs by 17 strokes on the third day to win by a commanding 18-stroke margin.

Kristina Langton, the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, finished tied for second, just two strokes behind Smith with a 233 overall. Her 80 on the third day was just one behind the lead. Caitlin Bennett and Allie Tyler both shot 80 on Wednesday, too, finishing in the top 10 at 237 and 240, respectively. Tracey Puckering ended in the top 10, as well, placing ninth with a final score of 241 after an 82 on the final day.
