Indianapolis, Ind. - The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team remained in first place at the 2008 GLIAC Championships with a three-day team score of 482 points. GVSU heads into the final day with a 50-point lead over Wayne State (432). Saturday prelims begin at 10:30 a.m., while the finals are set for 6 p.m. at the University of Indianapolis.

The Lakers continued their stellar performances with three school records, three NCAA DII A cuts and four B cuts on the third day of competition. Evan Kobes claimed the GLIAC title in the 100 back with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 51.19. Justin Pattermann set the school-record and earned a B mark with a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:05.75). Matt Witkowski touched fourth with a time of 4:11.57. Jordan Schrotenboer added another school-record and hit the NCAA automatic mark with his second-place finish in the 200 free (1:40.80), while Kyle Burgher was seventh and hit the B mark with a time of 1:42.72.

Hans Hill finished second in the 100 breast and hit the B mark with a time of 58.00. Phil Kaseska was eighth, touching the wall in 1:01.20. Phil Watkins finished seventh in the 100 butterfly (52.33). The GVSU 800 free relay team of Jordan Schrotenboer, Kyle Burgher, Jeff Pauza and Matt Witkowski set the school-record and hit the automatic qualifying mark with a time of 6:50.66. Evan Betts claimed second on the 1-meter board with a championship score of 427.10, while Patrick VanDommelen was third (375.10).
