Indianapolis, Ind. - The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team increased its lead after day two of the 2008 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships to 45 points. The Lakers have 245 points, while Wayne State is in second with 203 team points. Day three will begin with Friday morning prelims.

The highlight of day two was the 400 medley relay team capturing the GLIAC title in an NCAA automatic qualifying and school-record time of 3:23.00. The foursome of Evan Kobes, Hans Hill, Justin Pattermann and Matt Witkowski added their 200 medley relay title with a four second win. The Laker 200 free relay team of Kobes, Witkowski, Aaron Renton and Jordan Schrotenboer finished fourth in a time of 1:25.05. The Lakers set the school-record with a 1:25.02 swim in the prelims. Jeff Pauza met the NCAA B mark in the 500 free with a sixth-place finish in 4:42.55. His time also bettered the previous freshman mark he set earlier this season. The Lakers scored well in the 200 IM as three earned NCAA B marks. Pattermann was just edged out by Ashland's Erik Hakansson (1:53.62), touching 1:53.72. Witkowski was third (1:54.41) and Schrotenboer was sixth (1:56.57). Pattermann's time was a varsity and freshman record. Kobes claimed sixth-place in the 50 free with a time of 21.59.
