Indianapolis, Ind. - The 200 medley relay team claimed the GLIAC title and highlighted an opening day that ended with Grand Valley State in first place with 93 team points. Day two will begin with Thursday morning prelims. Lewis is in second with 82 points, followed by Indianapolis (75).
The 200 medley relay team team finished with an NCAA DII automatic qualifying time of 1:32.38. In addition, that mark also established a new GVSU school record. Evan Kobes swam an opening leg backstroke in 23.51 and had the Lakers in first place. Hans Hill followed with a strong breaststroke in 25.63, while freshman Justin Patterman kept the Lakers in first place with a 22.54 butterfly. Jordan Schrotenboer brought home the title with a 20.70 50 freestyle. Evan Betts finished second on the 3-meter board with a championship total of 444.25, while Patrick VanDommelen finished third (348.00). Jeff Pauza turned in a seventh place finish in the 1650 free.
