Jamie Detillion enters his sixth season with the Grand Valley State University baseball program.

Detillion is the Lakers hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. Detillion also handles responsibilities such as camp coordinator, strength and conditioning, and assisting in daily operations of the program.

Over the past five seasons, the Lakers have hit .335 as a team and have averaged 7.4 runs per game. The 2007 lineup hit .370, which was 3rd in all divisions after leading the country for all but the last week of the season. In 2006 the Lakers hit .345, which was 15th in NCAA Division II.

Since arriving at GVSU as an assistant coach, all five teams have been in the regional championship game, winning three of them in 2003, 2004, and 2005, which advanced to the NCAA Division II World Series in Montgomery, Alabama. This marked Detillions fourth trip to the Division II World Series, earning the trip in 1999 as a player at Ashland University. The Lakers have also held weekly rankings in the NCAA Division II top 10 each of the past four seasons including a #3 ranking in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons as well as a National Runner-Up finish in 2004.

In six seasons, 38 hitters have been named to GLIAC all-conference teams and 33 hitters have been named to post-season tournament teams as well as three World Series tournament team performers. In addition, numerous individual school records and several GVSU team records have been broken over the last five seasons including batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, RBIs, total bases and on-base percentage.

Prior to leaving for minor league spring training in 2001 and 2002, Detillion served as pitching coach at Ashland University and assistant baseball coach at Tiffin Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio.

Before beginning his coaching career, Detillion pitched three seasons in the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds organizations from 2000-2002. He began as a professional with the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League prior to signing with the Tigers organization. After playing for the Gulf Coast League Tigers, West Michigan Whitecaps and Lakeland Tigers in Detroits system, he signed with the Cincinnati Reds and was assigned to the Dayton Dragons before ending his professional playing career. In three seasons as a relief pitcher, Detillion was 12-7 with a 2.92 ERA and 6 saves in 145 innings.

Jamie was also a pitcher and First Baseman from 1997-2000 at Ashland University. Detillion earned NCAA DII first team All-American honors his junior year as a first baseman and was a four time All-GLIAC recipient as a first baseman and a pitcher. Jamie left Ashland holding 17 individual records, including career home runs (46), and RBI's (203), single season home runs (23), RBI's (89), and total bases (162), and single game home runs (4) and RBI's (8). The single game four home runs and 16 total bases are NCAA post-season records for all divisions. Detillion is also among the leaders in career innings pitched (333.0) and wins (30) for the Eagles. Detillion led Ashland to the NCAA DII World Series in Montgomery, Ala. in 1999 where he led the tournament in hitting (8 for 12, .667 avg).

Jamie received his bachelor's of science in education from Ashland University in 2000 and is currently working on his masters of education at GVSU.
