The Anchor-Bone Trophy

The Anchor Bone Trophy sponsored by Huntington Bank will be presented to the winner of the GVSU vs. FSU football game. The trophy made its debut in 2002 and was awarded to Ferris State in honor of Matt Sklom, their player who passed away. Since 2002, Grand Valley has captured the trophy for five straight years.
Ferris State dominated the rivalry during the first nine games in the 1970s, losing only two during that time span. While Ferris State would start the rivalry on a 7-2 run, the Lakers would turn the tables in the 1980s, winning nine of the 10 played in that decade. The Lakers and the Bulldogs would fight to a close 5-4-1 series during the 90s, with the Lakers narrowly holding the one game advantage. Grand Valley has yet to drop a game to Ferris in the current decade, pulling out a 21-20 victory in 2000. Currently, the Lakers own a 22-12-1 overall record against their closest rival, Ferris State.
